A news site indexed in minutes, not hours

A breaking story indexed two hours later is a dead story. A news site is measured by how fast an editor gets from writing to publishing, and how fast a search engine gets from publishing to indexing. Everything else comes after those two.

Requirements

What a news site specifically needs

Requirements no other site type has.

Indexing and visibility

  • A news sitemap updated in real time
  • NewsArticle structured data on every story
  • Meeting the Google News entry requirements
  • Image sizes that qualify for Discover
  • Permanent URLs that never change after publishing

Newsroom and operations

  • An editor that writes and publishes in few steps
  • Scheduled publishing and review permissions
  • Sections, authors and tags with a clean archive
  • Surviving sudden waves of traffic
  • Legacy archives migrated without breaking links

Performance

Ads are what slow news sites down, not the design

Most slow news sites are not badly built. They are loaded with ad networks injecting dozens of external requests into every page. We cannot remove your revenue source, but we can control how ads load so they neither block the story nor destroy your performance scores.

How we handle advertising

Deferred loading for off-screen units
Reserved space per unit to stop layout jumps
The story text decoupled from ad loading
Each network's speed cost measured
An agreed ceiling on units per page
A performance report before and after

The archive

The asset most news sites neglect

Three things that outlive the story.

Topic pages

A page gathering connected coverage of an issue or a person, which keeps drawing traffic for months.

A browsable archive

Ordered by date, section and author, turning stored files into pages that are actually read.

Links between stories

Tying a new story to what preceded it raises session depth and revives older material.

Questions

About news sites

Can you guarantee acceptance into Google News?
Nobody can guarantee acceptance, since the decision is Google's. What we guarantee is that the site meets every published technical requirement, which is what prevents months of rejection over structural problems.
We have an archive of tens of thousands of articles.
We migrate all of it with a redirect map for every old URL. The archive is usually your largest search asset, and breaking its links during migration is a loss that is hard to recover.
Do you build on WordPress?
We choose based on publishing volume and team size. WordPress is a sound choice for many sites. For very heavy publishing we recommend a lighter architecture that handles the load at lower cost.
